Baba There Is Work - Typical Nigerian Police Patrol Car

An undated picture of a police patrol car broken down in traffic. This is not an unsual sight in the country. On a good day in Nigeria, this truck was most likely ‘donated’ by a state governor to the police. After, that it’s used until it looks like this.

Another governor comes in, budgets for police equipment, rewards himself or an ally with the contract. They chop, they go and the circle of waste continues.

I wish the police can be self-sufficient and independent. It makes money from traffic tickets, minimal budgetary allocation from the government and proceeds from seized items forfeited by convicted criminals.
