Well, sort of, giving what the world and Malaysia was already preparing for. Kou know, life rafts and debris, that's no more the case. The Malaysia Prime Minister during his press conference confirmed the possibility of hijack without being explicit. Highlights of what the Prime Minister said:
- The Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) of MH370 was “disabled” just before the aircraft reached the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.
- Shortly after that, near the border between Malaysian and Vietnamese air traffic control, the aircraft’s transponder was “switched off”.
- Raw satellite data confirmed MH370 did turn back and flew in a westerly direction back over peninsular Malaysia before turning north-west. It is also confirmed that the unidentified object tracked by Royal Malaysian Air Force primary radar on Saturday morning was indeed MH370.
- New data now revealed that the last confirmed communication between the plane and the satellite was at 8:11am Malaysian time on Saturday March 8.
- This new data has opened the possibilities that the plane could either be in a northern corridor stretching approximately from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand, or a southern corridor stretching approximately from Indonesia to the southern Indian ocean.
Honestly, arm-chair analyst or not, conspiracy theory or not but with the little information made available to the public, its fair to assume the pilot or co-pilot is in on this, except if the hijackers casually walked into cock-pit, pointed guns at their heads and whispered instructions to them.
For me, I'm somehow relieved at the possibility plane was hijacked, not crashed. It means the passengers are somewhere alive but probably in fear. Maybe that's why their phones were ringing when family members tried reaching them, but it makes no political sense. A plane full of mostly Chinese, Malaysian and Indonesian citizens hijacked by who? Uighur separatist, Sulu invaders or air-pirates looking for a quick buck? Makes no sense and I hope the plane landed somewhere in one piece. Let the hijackers make their demands known and get everyone, especially family members of those affected out of this misery.
