The Central African Republic Parliament has appointed Catherine Samba-Panza to act as interim President. Catherine beat fellow Parliamentarian, Desire Kolingba in a second round voting by the interim parliament to become interim President. What now appears to be a religious Violence broke out in the country between Muslim and Christians after a coup-d’état led by a coalition of rebel groups known as Seleka.
They rebels overhtrew the government, accusing the President, Francois Bozize of nepotism, indifference to insecurity and alienation of political opponents. Basically, Bozize was accused of pursuing absolute power (Did he irk the French?). So, he was deposed and expelled, while one of the rebel leaders, Michel Djotodia was installed as President and vowed to remain there until the next election which was scheduled for 2016, but had to step down due to international pressure as he stated committing the same crimes Bozize was accused of.
CAR is now divided between Christian militias known as Anti Balaka and Muslims militias known as Selaka.
Speaking after her appointment, she said "I call on my children, especially the anti-balaka, to put down their arms and stop all the fighting. The same goes for the ex-Seleka – they should not have fear. I don't want to hear any more talk of murders and killings. Starting today, I am the president of all Central Africans, without exclusion.". Catherine Samba-Panza was the mayor of Bangui and is a Christian.
