Nigeria Issues Travel Alert on The United States?

The federal government of Nigeria Issued an extra ordinary global travel warning to Nigerians about the dangers of travelling to the United states. The alert is the first of its kind in Nigerian history as the United States of America was deemed unsafe after careful analysis of events as they unfold by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence.

"We have been analysing the situation in the United States for some time now" said Lagbaja Mai-Gida Nwoke, spokes man for The Nigerian Foreign Ministry.

During a Presidential press conference, Foreign Ministry spokes man said " Considering the deteriorating security and mental situation in the United States, we are compelled to advice Nigerian citizens to avoid travelling to the United states except in unavoidable circumstances."

Washington D.C, the security situation in Washington has deteriorated significantly, travel to Washington remains dangerous and should be avoided. On September 16, 2013, a crazed gun man Aaron Alexis killed 13 people in cold blood and fatally injured 15 at the Washington Navy Yard. He is said to have two accomplices who are still at large.

Newton Connecticut,  December 14, 2012. A 20 year old man, Adam Lanza, Star Wars fan, fatally shot twenty-seven people in cold blood including his biological mother. He killed twenty children and six adult staff members in an insane mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the village of Sandy Hook.

Blacksburg, Virginia, 16 April, 2007. Seung Hui Cho, a lone gun man and a senior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. An individual adjudicated as mentally unsound shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 others in two separate attacks, approximately two hours apart, before he later committed suicide.

Fort Hood, Texas, November 5, 2009. Army Major and psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 people and injured 30 others in a jihad-inspired attack at a Texas military base. .


Aurora, Colorado, 20 July 2012. James Eagan Holmes, dressed in tactical clothing during the midnight screening of the film 'The Dark Knight Rises', set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others.

Most of Colorado is currently inhabitable as one year worth of rain fell in just eight days causing serious damage and about 1200 people are yet to be accounted for.

Sanford, Florida, Febuary 26, 2012. Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old high school student was stalked, touted and killed by George Zimmerman, a 28 year old neighbourhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was temporarily staying, claiming self defence under Florida's Stand Your Ground Law.

Nigerians who travel to America despite this Travel Warning should obtain the latest safety information from the Foreign Affairs Ministry website before departing Nigeria. Nigerian citizens who travel to or reside in America are strongly advised to register through the Foreign Ministry’s travel registration website,  http://www.mfa.durbamtechnologies.com/.

Nigerians without Internet access may register directly with the nearest Nigerian High Commision or Consulate. By registering, Nigerian citizens make it easier for the High Commision or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
